ABOUT

Jong Henry Kim is a contemporary artist born in South Korea and currently residing in the United States.

He received his BFA in Painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and his MFA in New Form Art from Pratt Institute, a new genre of art that emerged in the late 1990s.

With his diverse artistic training, Henry has created works in various mediums, including painting, drawing, sound, digital, video installations, and kinetic sculptures. Drawing on his broad media experience, he ran an advertising company from 2000 to 2015, continually exploring the integration of technology and art.

By blending traditional and modern mediums and techniques, Henry has developed a unique visual language. His experiences from this period have influenced his current paintings.

Over the past decade, Henry focused on social and political issues, creating works that express his wish for certain events not to have occurred. After facing personal health issues in 2020, he shifted his focus to everyday objects, documenting his daily visual observations. This has evolved into his current "Near Me" series, which reinterprets the ordinary with a fresh perspective.
