Jong Henry Kim, born in South Korea is a contemporary artist based in Connecticut.
He received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with the major in Painting and his MFA from Pratt Institute with the major in New form art which was a new genre of art in the late 1990s.
With his multi-disciplinary trainings as an artist, Henry has created his work in various mediums including paintings, drawings, sound, digital, video installations and Kinetic sculptures.
With the mix of traditional and unconventional mediums, Henry has developed his own visual language combined with unique storytelling.
For number of years, Henry focused on social and political issues as his subject matter and painted things that he wish it did not happen.
However his interest has been shifted to mundane things that are near around him after being diagnosed with cancer.With his physical limitation during the recovery time, Henry chose light weigh materials like crayons and papers and start creating daily sketches which evolved into “Near Me” series that consists of daily visual documentations.Henry currently lives and works in Redding, CT on the property once used to be the flower barn of a legendary photographer Edward Steichen.
